MOVEMBER--GET OVER IT LADIES!

It’s Movember (Mustache and November) and thousands of men will be growing mustaches for a good cause in raising awareness to Men’s Health--Prostate and Testicular—cancer. It’s a month long event that delivers a serious message and in a fun, engaging, and informative way however, I have grown frustrated with a portion of the female demographic for comments made.

Before I begin, the comments made in this blog are based on my personal opinions and facts gathered from the media.

The goal of Movember is to change the face of Men’s Health, literally and figuratively but rather than hearing the positive messages that should be ringing, the common question among some women has been, “what do we make of it all?” From a female perspective, is this a good thing? Is this trend something to be encouraged? Or is it all just a little furry-worm-lip-hat? Seriously ladies? A “trend?” The audacity! This is downright shameful.

In the month of October, the world--men and women--embraced pink in a global showing of support to Women’s Breast Cancer in which I was among the supporters having family who has gone through the battle. Pink was everywhere and men wore it proud. The support even showed up within the ultimate men’s pastime, sports! As an example, the NFL and WWE transformed and branded their sets and uniforms with pink detail. Just imagine the uproar among women if a man spat on Breast Cancer calling the pink movement a “trend” and “ugly?”

A brief history on how Movember came to be. In 1999, Seven Nightly News aired a story featuring a group of young men in Adelaide, South Africa who coined the term "Movember" and the idea of growing moustaches for charity throughout the month of November. The group started with 80 men from Adelaide and soon became a nation wide phenomenon. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation Charity has been encouraging men to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides getting an annual check-up, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of any family history of cancer, and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. In 2007, events were launched in Australia, Ireland, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United States. In 2012, the Global Journal listed Movember as one of the top 100 NGOs--non-government organizations--in the world.

To date, the Movember Foundation has since raised $174-million worldwide, after spreading to South Africa and Europe, reaching North America in 2006. In 2010, participants in the United States alone raised over $7.5 million. In 2012, 1.1 million people signed up to participate, raising upwards of $95 million.

Movember is quickly increasing Men’s Health awareness with the support from many influential individuals from sports, entertainment, music and beyond. Bottom line, health is most important if you want to live the life you want. Take care of yourself for your sake and those whom you love most. The world is a better place with you in it.

Stache it up proudly gents,

GOING FOR 3

Sadly, summer will be coming to an end but happily, football season is here! From professional sports to the office, men are inspired by the trends of their fav sports figures. As we move closer to fall, an old fashion figure arrives new...the 3-piece suit!

It has been documented that fashion always comes full circle. What was the style of era's past comes to the present day with mild or innovative twists. This is why I admire men's fashion, it was the suit that set "The Gentleman" standard. Men's suiting has been around for over 400 years in which the modern lounge suit appeared in the late 19th century. To this day, the suit is our go-to for any occasion.

Honoring the gentleman era, embrace and introduce the 3-piece suit into your wardrobe. The confidence you feel in looking put together will command respect from your peers and a wink from the ladies.

Here are some 3-piece suits worn by everyday gentlemen to inspire you. And here is the most important thing to know about this look...in addition to the fit, it is the vest that will keep you looking the part even when the jacket comes off.

I couldn't help but to show this look. Classic with a modern, manly twist. Show me a man who does not like camo. This look is to show how outside-the-box you can go. Pair the vest (waistcoat) with denim, camo pant, chinos and beyond. This will edge up your style and allow you to wear the look to any occasion.

Be Confident, Be Strong, Be The VoKARE Man!

FASHION 'N' FURIOUS

Fashion has the ability to persuade and influence the population. It is not just enough to create a product, it must be marketed to the masses through multi-level campaign platforms. The one common aspect of these campaigns is fashion as it promotes a certain lifestyle associated with the product.

To this point, every now and again, I find myself being truly inspired by unique creative greatness. My latest moment came but one week ago when I found myself being hypnotized by the latest Lexus commercials. This campaign is nothing short of sexy and proves that fashion serves as one of the most influential aspects of yesterday, today and tomorrows marketing landscape.

As technology progresses, society finds itself wants more ways to stimulate the senses. Music and Fashion has the ability to set the tone and capture our interest before we even know what is happening.

Let these images tell the story. And be sure to click on the link below to watch commercials CROWD and COLOR SHIFT followed by the making which gives a further glance into the fashion elements that made this campaign what it is...WHITE HOT!

You can choose to StandIn or you can STANDOUT. The VoKARE Man always stands out!

Mystery Men of Fashion

Clothing has the ability to influence your mindset. It can make you happy and confident. So let’s play with that, in fact, let the fashion you wear become a role-playing game. Be an international man of mystery, an undercover agent, a pilot, an Indy car driver, a movie producer, a music agent, a wolf of Wall Street or a fashion designer.  The perfect time to have fun with this is during travel. As you pack your bag, think of who you will become and live it out.

Fashion has a funny way of making things happen. A simple game of dress-up could be the very kick-start to launch you into your dream job or simply spice up your life. Either way, your wardrobe will thank you for it.

Here are some styles that I have selected for you to start playing with.

This movie producer likes shades of gray.

Change the definition of loner to jet setter, the picture says it all. From east to west and the Mediterranean, you live a fast paced and lavish life.

The agent. You manage an up and coming musical artist and you’re in town meeting with major labels.

The International man of mystery. Undercover for the bureau living a life of on the edge. Make this one up as you go.

He might look meek but he is a wolf of Wall Street. It’s about the confidence you exude. No one stands a chance.

Enjoy your clothing, be confident…be The VoKARE Man.

BECKHAM STYLE

Say what you will about Sir David Beckham, with recent news of his retirement from football, he has created a legacy that can be associated with reshaping the game. David joins the ranks of many elite professional athletes in the world that are influential in their own right and role models to the worlds population. Strong words but true.

The David Beckham brand can also be associated with fashion. No surprise really given his London roots. Although the most notables being his ever changing hair styles and tattoos, David has had a flair for men's fashion. I personally admire Sir David Beckhams fashion sense as he is, for lack of a better word, a "Trend Setter". but not in the traditional sense, it is for the fact that he does not succumb to "trends." He dresses in clothing that makes him feel who he is, confident and strong. This is a common statement that I often make and what inspires the culture of VoKARE.

In honor of Sir David Beckham, here's looking at you...

Thank you David. You most certainly are The VoKARE Man.

Sir David Beckham and Christopher Jozeph - The VoKARE Men.

BROTHERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS

Now that you've been armed with the goto style of the season in the unstructured blazer, it is time to up your game when it comes to travel. This time of year rings in warmer weather, weddings, and travel.

That being said, allow me to get right to the point. This entry is about preparing for travel and fitting all of your weekend into one carryall bag.

Here is what you will need:
  1. Gray Suit
  2. 2 dress shirts
  3. T-shirt
  4. 2 pair of pants (dark denim and light chinos)
  5. Pocket Square
  6. Reversible Belt (Brown/Black)
  7. Sunglasses
  8. Tie
  9. Sock
  10. Dress Shoe (replace the black shoe with the stylish double monk strap - brown)
  11. Sneakers
  12. ...And your carry on bag
Wear your jacket through the airport not to have it wrinkle.

Need I say more, you are put together.

Notice that your jacket is the one constant in each look.

Another night out, switch the shirt and loose the tie...no one will know it the same suit.

Dump the traditional black shoes. Here is your new best friend, the tan or espresso double monk strap. It elevates your suiting and casual style to pure fashionisto! Wear with all colors, no rules.

And lose those dull adidas looking things and replace them with some leather john varvatos converse!

This is how "The VoKARE Man" does it, are you that man?
